What we do
Cosmetic surgery assessment
In line with the Guidelines for registered medical practitioners who perform cosmetic, medical and surgical procedures (Medical Board of Australia, 2023) that came into effect 1 July 2023, The Talking Cure practitioners offer suitability assessments for cosmetic procedures.
We employ the use of specific evidence-based assessment measures and provide comprehensive psychological evaluation reports identifying any psychological risks and recommendations as to how individuals can be supported before, during and after any cosmetic procedures as required.
Types of presentations
We can screen and comprehensively assess for presentations, including but not limited to:
Body dysmorphic disorder
Eating disorder
Obsessive compulsive disorder
Trauma presentations
Anxiety and depression
Risk factors
In addition to the identification of specific disorders, we also screen and assess for general risk factors associated with poorer cosmetic procedure outcomes, including but not limited to:
Identity concerns
Negative self-image
Unrealistic expectations of procedures
Relational and other concerns influencing motivation
Report
The assessment undertaken by our team will provide Medical Practitioners and patients with a comprehensive evaluation report on the following psychological factors:
Individual’s psychological suitability and capacity to undergo the procedure
